Training

Training Diary 2012

This information is intended for all those interested in learning to sail and or windsurf; become more confident; improve skills; train for racing; instructor qualifications; Safety Boat and First Aid competence.

DO YOU WANT TO LEARN TO SAIL?

If you want to learn to sail you can do formal 2 day RYA courses with Bewerley Park Centre for Outdoor Education which works in close partnership with the club. These courses are open to both members and non members. You can also learn to sail more informally through voluntarily run training sessions held on various Saturday mornings throuhout the season. These are free of charge (though we ask for a small donation) but only open to club members. They work well for younger children and families wanting to learn to sail together while the intensive RYA weekend courses work well for adults wanting to learn to sail well quickly, and for those wanting to see if they take to sailing before committing to joining the club.

The club is indebted to all the club members and coaches who give freely of their time and energy; to Gybe and Bewerley Park Centre for the resource of training equipment and tuition; and to the participating club members for the success of all this training, particularly all the young members who will be the future of our club. Four day RYA courses for teenagers, in both sailing and windsurfing, are run by Bewerley Park in the school summer holidays. You can also do Powerboat and Safetyboat courses through Bewerley Park

BOOKING SYSTEM

All sessions will need to be booked by individual members or by parents of junior members. Bookings will be made via a booking form (usually via email). Forms will be dealt with by the session coordinator. Bookings will be made on a monthly basis.

FINANCES

All sessions will be free to members. However, there is a cost to the club. This includes fuel to run the safety boats; maintenance and repairs to club equipment; and the club contributes to GYBE, which is a voluntary youth training scheme, for the upkeep of equipment.

Please bear in mind that none of the coordinators, instructors or helpers receive any financial return for their voluntary efforts.

With this in mind we should like to introduce a voluntary contribution scheme. At the registration desk for each session there will be a contribution tin - £2 per session would be great!

HELP NEEDED!

You will appreciate that none of this would be happening were it not for those in the club already dedicated to moving the club forward and offering maximum benefit to the members.

GET INVOLVED!

Whatever your skills you will be more than welcome. Do you remember learning to sail? Who was responsible for this, and are you indebted to them? It’s a good feeling knowing that someone else is learning and achieving through your efforts. It all works by making that voluntary commitment.

Get in touch: with any of the coordinators.

HELP IN THE CANTEEN!

The training sessions will inevitably increase activity at the club and you all like to ‘eat well’during the day. This means the canteen is very busy and like everything else it works on a voluntary basis. If you are not on the water please consider helping in the canteen. If you can, it is very helpful to know in advance so the catering staff can plan.

FINALLY:

Thanks for getting to the end of this document and we look forward to seeing you at the training sessions, either taking part or helping.
