19th February
After an enforced break due to snow and ice on the approach roads (the lake never froze) we were all glad to get back on the water - especially as there was a lovely F3 with sunshine all day.
Races 9 &10
A windward leeward course with shore based start were set for R9 and 19 boats ventured out . Not suprisingly, the course suited the fast asymmetrics and the race was won by Matty and James in their 49er (Ullswater YC). Phil W was second in the Vortex and Mike Saul / Josh 3rd after a close race with Jonathan and Terry - both in RS800s. Jon Modral-Gibbons (Ullswater YC) was 5th in his Musto Skiff. Series leaders Chris and Laura (RS200) were 7th after a titanic struggle to pass Neil Barrett and Sophie also in an RS200. Soerens Finn was also right with the 200s and close enough to pip them for 6th.
After that race the top 3 were within 0.5 pts of each other overall.
Race 10 started in a similar F3 - but the course now included a couple of tighter reaches. Mike and Josh were still going quick enough to win, but Chris and Laura improved to 2nd - just beating Phil. Hector Simpson did well to get 4th in his Laser with Keith & Phil 5th in the 29er.. Richard Whiteley / Lucy (Ripon SC) in another RS200 narrowly beat Soerens Finn for 6th - just seconds in front of Meg Backhouse (Beaver SC) in the first Laser Radial. In fact 6 boats were within a minute of each other.

In the series, Chris and Laura drop to second as Mike and Josh (RS800), take the lead after their 2, 1 results from the day. Phil remains 3rd. Its all very close with just 2½ points between 1st and 3rd and Jonathan and Terry are only 3pts behind that group in 4th. Soeren in 5th also only needs a couple of decent result and others to have a bad day to be right in the mix.
Chris and Laura are off hunting for glory at the Icicle Event at Blackpool and Fleetwood next weekend (good luck team Pix), so they will have to hope others slip up.
The series ends next weekend in what should be an exciting finale to the series which with 50 competitors has proved to be yet another success for the club.
