Introduction to Sailing
We sail and race a wide variety of craft and encourage virtually any type of boat. Both Laser and RS are well represented as well as the 9'ers, together with a sprinkling of more traditional classes.
Amongst the Laser designs we have a large fleet of Vortex, the original 'Laser One', and several Laser 4000s.
RS fans will regularly see RS200,RS400, RS500, RS600, RS Vareo and the exciting RS700 and 800s! The club has also acquired both an RS Vision and the exciting new youth boat the RS Feva and 2 Teras. All are available for the use of members (see link below).
There are also regular showings from Contender, Phantom, 29er , 49er, Enterprise, Wayfarer and many others.
For younger members (and the young at heart) there are Mirrors, Toppers, Optimists, RS Fevas and Teras often being sailed at the club.
Checkout the Race Results section to see who has been sailing what types of boat.
If you're already an established dinghy sailor then you'll probably want to join in with the club racing and / or Open Events - see the racing section for more details.
If you're a novice, or prefer to cruise on Grimwith, don't worry there's lots of space for all and you can sail even when races are being held. We provide training / coaching to RYA standards and if you'd eventually like to try racing, we run a series of novice only races to help you along the way. We have a growing number of keen junior members and will be holding a number of events and training sessions for them during the season.
Members can sail one of the club's own fleet of boats - see Club Boats for more details.
Or, if you don't own a boat, or you are new to sailing, why not get a taster and learn the 'ropes', by having a sail with one of our members? Get in touch, then come along and have a go!
